The Minor Ailment Service which was delivered by community pharmacies from 2006 has been replaced with the new NHS Pharmacy First Service.
This service focuses on increasing access to community pharmacy as the first port of call for patients to manage self-limiting illnesses and supporting self-management of stable long term conditions in and out of hours and to improve pharmaceutical care and contribute to the multi-disciplinary team.
Pharmacists can give you advice and treatment (if you need it) for minor illnesses such as the following:
Acne
Allergies
Athlete’s foot
Backache
Blocked or runny nose
Cold sores
Constipation
Cough
Cystitis (in women)
Diarrhoea
Earache
Eczema
Headache
Head lice
Haemorrhoids (piles)
Hay fever
Impetigo
Indigestion
Mouth ulcers
Sore throat
Pain
Period pain
Threadworms
Thrush
Warts
Verrucas
Please be aware that should you call the surgery with one of the above conditions, you will be referred to the Pharmacy in the first instance.
